BMC Racing Team's Louder Hometown Favorite In Utah

BMC Racing Team's Louder Hometown Favorite In Utah

Jeff Louder, champion of the 2008 edition of the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah and a Salt Lake City resident, will lead the BMC Racing Team at this year's revamped edition of the event billed "America's Toughest Stage Race."

Queen Stage To Snowbird Resort
With new courses and a UCI designation, Louder said he has done his homework to be ready for the six-day race that begins Tuesday with an uphill prologue in Park City's Utah Olympic Park. "The race will be a lot different this year with a higher caliber field," Louder said. "Everything can be won or lost on the last climb up Little Cottonwood Canyon (on the final stage). There is also the big question as to who rides well at altitude." BMC Racing Team Assistant Director Michael Sayers said Louder will receive good support, particularly from Brent Bookwalter and George Hincapie. The pair helped Cadel Evans win last month's Tour de France.

Tour de Pologne will double up

August 4, 2011, 4:27pm

04 August, 2011 - The Tour de Pologne, with its two mountain stages in Zakopane and Bukowina Tatrzanska, has definitely started heating up before  the  grand finale in  Krakow . Tomorrow, August 5, in Bukowina Tatrzanska the Tour de Pologne will double up. Beside the race, there will be  the Tour de Pologne Amatorow stage, sponsored by Bank BGŻ, the race open to cycling tourists and amateurs that will take place on the last stretch of the same route ridden by the pros.

After last year's brilliant experience, the organisers of Tour de Pologne decided to repeat and expand the event dedicated to two wheel enthusiasts. The amateur race covers
56.6 km and is open to everyone, on a spectacular winding route through the Polish hills, with three Mountain Grand Prix. It all starts off from the lovely background offered by  Bukovina Terma Hotel Spa and arrives on the professionals' finish line in Bukowina Tatrzanska. And it's not all just about the race...in the spirit of any Grand Fondo worth its weight, the Tour de Pologne amateur stage will also present the perfect occasion to discover the scenery and natural beauty featured in this marvellous corner of Polish territory. It's a don't-miss chance for an experience that blends sport with culture, history and  the local gourmet tradition.

Director of the Tour de Pologne
Czeslaw Lang will be on hand to start things off. Many guests have already accepted the invitation to this ride, including the great Tony Romingerand lots of other ex cycling champions, as well as sports and entertainment celebrities.

Cadel Evans To Race In Colorado

Cadel Evans To Race In Colorado

Tour de France winner Cadel Evans will close out his season with one more criterium in Europe, followed by an appearance with the BMC Racing Team in the inaugural edition of the USA Pro Cycling Challenge in Colorado.

Wrapping A 'Dream Season'
Evans will compete in a post-Tour criterium Tuesday in Amsterdam after appearances in criteriums in Belgium and Germany last week. His final race of the year will be the USA Pro Cycling Challenge, which runs Aug. 22-28 and includes 833 kilometers of racing through the Rocky Mountains. "I'm looking forward to competing in the U.S. in one more stage race before I close out what has been a dream season," Evans said. "I've heard good things about the race in Colorado and I know it won't be easy. But I'm up for one more challenge." Evans last raced in the United States in the 2006 edition of the Amgen Tour of California, finishing seventh overall.

Colorado Suits Him Well
In addition to winning the Tour de France, Tirreno-Adriatico and the Tour de Romandie this year, Evans was also runner-up at the Critérium du Dauphiné and top 10 in the Volta a Catalunya. He is the No. 1 ranked rider on the UCI's WorldTour rankings. "With the worlds in Copenhagen this year being more for sprinters, Cadel wasn't expecting to go to the worlds," BMC Racing Team Directeur Sportif John Lelangue said. "Colorado has nice mountains, we are an American team, and it's a good opportunity for him to race in the U.S. He couldn't race in California in May due to his pre-Tour de France training camps."

Steele Von Hoff claimes fourth stage victory

July 29, 2011, 6:04am

Steele Von Hoff claimed his fourth stage victory in the Lakes Oil Tour of Gippsland today but, despite his domination, he will not win the five-day road cycling classic.

Von Hoff, 23, began the third day’s racing with a punishing win in the 45km criterium at Moe South, then followed with a comfortable triumph in the 85km stage six road race from Morwell to Maffra.

The former Melbourne boilermaker, who has been competing seriously for only 12 months, also won the opening criterium in Wonthaggi on Wednesday and followed with another victory in yesterday’s closed circuit street race in San Remo.

Von Hoff took off on the 102km mountainous trek from San Remo to Warragul yesterday afternoon wearing the leader’s yellow jersey but, in an incredible mix-up with his Genesys team-mates, he lost 11 minutes and slumped to 17th overall.

The new tour leader was his Genesys partner, Canberra’s Nathan Haas, but even teamboss Andrew Christie-Johnson was bewildered by his contingent’s tactics.

“Nathan got away in the break and we thought we had Anthony Giacoppo up there as well,” Christie-Johnson said.

“But before we realised what was happening, there was a six-minute gap and our second option dried up. I was a bit puzzled by the lack of initiative from the other teams as well.”

Haas leads the tour by 20 seconds from the 17-year-old West Australian Bradley Linfield (Plan B), with the Jayco AIS rider Aaron Donnelly, of NSW, 30 seconds back in third place.

BMC Racing Team's Cadel Evans Makes Tour de France History

Cadel Evans of the BMC Racing Team confirmed his place in Tour de France history Sunday by becoming the first Australian to win the world's greatest bicycle race.

'We Did It'

After crossing the finish line in Paris, Evans was swarmed by all eight of his teammates who completed the three-week, 3,430-kilometer race. Thirty years after fellow Australian Phil Anderson first wore the yellow jersey, Evans celebrated his first win in seven Tour de France appearances. "A few people always believed in me," Evans said. "I believed in me. And those few people and my team and the few people around me and myself are what matter most. We did it. I also have to thank all our fans, especially those who stayed up late to watch in Australia." Mark Cavendish (HTC-Highroad) won the final stage on the Champs Élysées in Paris.

Time Trial Was The Highlight

Evans took the lead on the penultimate day by overcoming a 57-second deficit to Andy Schleck (Leopard Trek) in the 42 km individual time trial in Grenoble. Schleck finished second overall, 1:34 behind Evans's winning time of 86 hours, 12 minutes and 22 seconds. "For me personally, the real highlight of it all was the last three or four kilometers of the time trial," Evans said. "The hardest part had been done until that point and coming into that finish I knew we were on the right track so that was just incredible. For once the last four km of a time trial wasn't that hard."

Hincapie Makes History

With Evans's victory, George Hincapie extended his record run of being part of nine Tour de France winning teams. "I told the guys before the start today to soak up every moment, every bump, every corner, every sound you hear because it's special and something you will remember the rest of your life," Hincapie said. "From the chaos of the first week to the challenges we had during the mountains to the different tactical approaches the other teams were taking to the dramatic time trial at the end – it was all very special." Hincapie previously rode with Tour de France champions Lance Armstrong (1999-2005) and Alberto Contador (2007) and has participated in a record-tying 16 Tours de France.

Regains No. 1 Ranking

By winning three of five stage races he has started this season, Evans regained the UCI WorldTour No. 1 ranking he briefly held after winning Tirreno-Adriatico. He also won the Tour de Romandie and was runner-up at the Critérium du Dauphiné. His Tour win also elevates the BMC Racing Team to No. 2 (behind Leopard Trek) in the team classification of the UCI WorldTour rankings. Joining him on the Tour de France team were Brent Bookwalter (USA), Marcus Burghardt (GER), Hincapie (USA), Amaël Moinard (FRA), Steve Morabito (SUI), Manuel Quinziato (ITA), Ivan Santaromita (ITA) and Michael Schär (SUI). BMC Racing Team Directeur Sportif John Lelangue was assisted in the race by Assistant Director Fabio Baldato.

Great Satisfaction

The BMC Racing captures its first Tour de France title in only its second appearance in the race. Co-Owner Andy Rihs said the organization put all of its effort into surrounding Evans with the best people and resources he needed to win his first Tour de France. "I'm extremely delighted, as is the whole team, but the happiest man on the planet must be Cadel," Rihs said. "It's a great satisfaction to finally have this dream come true. Cadel had potential and he showed it. He fought every day and it's a historic effort for him and the whole BMC Racing Team."

All down to final time trial for Evans

Tour de France, Stage 19: Evans Into Third

cadel evansCadel Evans chased, attacked and ultimately answered the challenges from his closest rivals on the final day in the Alps to climb into third place overall for the BMC Racing Team Friday at the Tour de France.

Grenoble Time Trial

After finishing fifth on the 109.5-kilometer race to Alpe d'Huez, Evans is 57 seconds behind new race leader Andy Schleck and four seconds behind Frank Schleck (both of Leopard Trek). Evans said his strategy for Saturday's 42.5-kilometer time trial on the race's penultimate day will be simple: "Start as fast as possible, finish as fast as possible and hope it's fast enough," he said. "Of course, I'd much rather be in yellow with five minutes (lead) going into the time trial."

Good Help From The Team

Evans spent nearly 80 kilometers chasing back after initially following an attack by Alberto Contador less than 15 kilometers into the race. "I was sitting well when he attacked, but feeling pretty average," Evans said. "I think there was something wrong with my rear wheel and it was slowing me down a bit. For that reason, I changed bikes. When they're going pretty fast and you have to stop three times, the chances of getting back by yourself are pretty limited. But the team eventually came back and rode just fantastic all the way to the steepest slopes of the Galibier." Pierre Rolland (Team Europcar) soloed to win the stage.

cadel evansTour de France, Stage 17: Closer To The Lead

BMC Racing Team's Cadel Evans crept 27 seconds closer to the overall lead Wednesday at the Tour de France thanks to an epic pursuit and some wayward riding on a technical descent by some of the riders in front of him.

Cautious Approach

Evans remains second overall but moved to within 78 seconds of maillot jaune wearer Thomas Voeckler (Team Europcar). The former world road champion did not concede any time on the top riders immediately behind him in the overall standings, despite a few harrowing moments on the fast run-in off the Col de Pramartino. "There were more corners, it was drier and all shadowy, which made it hard to see," Evans said, comparing the descent to that of Stage 16 where he also gained time. "I certainly didn't want to take any risks, but there was a little bit of leeway there at the bottom and we had the numbers. Voeckler ran off the road twice in front of me. It makes you take things a bit more cautiously."

How It Happened

As Edvald Boasson Hagen (Sky Pro Cycling) soloed to the win the 179-kilometer stage, Evans was doing his best on the descent to catch back to Alberto Contador (Saxo Bank-Sungard) and Samuel Sanchez (Euskaltel-Euskadi). "They went right over the top and I got behind Andy (Schleck) and just couldn't get around him," Evans said. "Then Voeckler went off the road in front of him as well. It didn't make sense to cut underneath and take risks just to get across. You don't ever want to lose time to anyone and I've got a good advantage over Alberto now. But he's shown in years gone by what he can do when he's really at his top."
