First CT Blog: Ange McClure- The Process

This is my first blog for cycling tribe and I’m excited to be a contributor. My name is Ange McClure and I’m a professional cyclist with the outfit ‘Kleo Ladies Team’ a new UCI Italian team. I have been riding my bike seriously now for 4 and half years along with studying Psychology. I’m based in Forli, Emilia-Romagna and when back in Oz I live in the best state Adelaide.

Along with many firsts this year, the biggest one has been crossing the large pond to come to Italy and experience a European season as a professional. To get where I am has been hard and now that I’m here it’s even harder. When I stepped off the plane in February I was all ‘gun ho’ on how I was going to take on the best cyclists in the world, and did I ever get smacked down to ground. Standing confident on two feet …is along way off. It’s what I’ve titled the process, some are fast at getting the way things roll in Euroland and some flat out just never get it. Thankfully I have great support around me in all directions and my progress is coming along nicely. I now say I can finish races and that I have contributed to my team.

The latest race of which was GP Cornaredo UCI 1.2 this race did not have my name written all over it with a 12k loop x 10 that was flat, fast and a few dodgy corners thrown in, my job was solely for team usage only. Our sprinter Annalisa Cucinotta came in 7th not too bad of day. A shout out has to go to the Aussie development team over here at the moment, talk about representing. A special mention must go to Sinead Noonan. Riding along in the bunch I see this girl with bottles in every pocket and 5 or so down the back of her jersey. There I was thinking WOW talk about a bottle run and then I notice its Noonan as the boys in Adelaide say ‘ so euro’.

What’s next? Well Spain World Cup was on the calendar, but a change of plans for the team will see us line up in a few smaller races, before the big time and my main focus on the season the Women’s Giro.

Chat later
