Quick-Step cycling team quotes: Vuelta Stage 1
Tweet
Today the Quick-Step Cycing Team put in an excellent performance on the time trial roads in Benidorm which officially opened the 2011 edition of the Vuelta. On the 13,5 kilometres circuit the team finished in 6th place, just 15 seconds behind Team Leopard, winner of the stage.
"We raced very well", said Rik Van Slycke. "We started off strong and were consistent until the end. Perhaps in the final kilometres we were a bit scattered, the line wasn’t perfect. However these little details definitely cost us a few seconds. Anyway, it was a good performance; it’s been a while since the team had a team time trial race at this level. The guys are motivated and ready to fight it out these next few days."
“During the time trial I felt good”, said Sylvain Chavanel. "In the final seaside stretch I understood that we were having a good race. The speed was consistently high. We’re pleased, everyone put in 100% today. The route today was hard because the climb came immediately after the start and we had to find a good rhythm right away.”
