Hubbard-ness
Ok so I raced the Ross Bush Memorial on Saturday, it's an 80km handicap* on a circuit halfway between Ballarat and Geelong. After being abused by some locals for "staying on the front too long", dropping my chain** and getting dropped on a descent (yes, you read correctly) I started to get back to my old self... albeit a very fearful-of-downhills-and-corners
version.
Our scratch bunch worked well but with about 30 km to go I managed to stuff up the simplest task required of a cyclist... PEDALLING!!! for some reason I decided to pull up on the pedal before I should have and felt my ankle pull apart then clunk back together... not a nice feeling! After this it was all I could do to hang on the back of the bunch on the flat, so when it started to piss down with rain I said sorry to fellow Ballarat scratchman Rob and got in the sag wagon... something I try to
Rob finished off well to narrowly win the bunch kick for fastest time by about 3 lengths and also pick up 2nd place.
Needless to say I have some confidence building to do before I line up at the Tour of Tasmania. It seems to be the same after every crash: you ride around freaking out for a while, then something in your brain clicks and you think to yourself "hang on, I used to do this just fine, what am I doing?" and you go back to normal. Well brain, you have until Tuesday to sort yourself out... hopefully I'll be back riding like the photo above soon.
Cheers
